By You'd think if you were an extremely good actor with both arthouse smarts and commercial clout, you'd have a fair idea of why exactly people want you to be in their films.
Every time your agent gave you a shout about, say, playing Batman, you'd presumably think, "Why do they want me? Oh yes, my arthouse smarts and commercial clout allied to my acting skills. Tremendous."
But not, apparently, if you're Robert Pattinson. Speaking to Esquire for the cover interview of our new issue - which is very good, by the way - Pattinson admitted that he's really not got his head around the whole Batman thing yet.
"It's kind of insane," Pattinson said. "I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all."
The Lighthouse is the new one from Eggers, director of the lauded horror The Witch, and it's built up a lot of excitement for its its mix of claustrophobic horror, psychological tension and impressively bushy 1890s facial hair. Pattinson's co-star Willem Dafoe told Esquire what to expect.
"It’s a beautiful script, very musical, the text is gorgeous," he said. "And I’m enough of a nature boy that I knew that we were gonna be in full-on nature. I’m enough of an athlete to know that there were gonna be some physical things to do. And I’m enough of an actor to know that it would be challenging to do this very full-blown character but to give him a reality that really gets under your skin."
