After weeks of Dark Rey debate, Disney has revealed the final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The latest look at the big Skywalker conclusion delivers some unexpected emotion. Along with a powerful voiceover from Luke (who is back, or his voice at least), the trailer also teases what appears to be an unexpected death.

At one point in the trailer, we see C-3PO getting some work done on the back of his head. When Poe asks him, what he's doing, there, C-3PO responds with: "Taking one last look, sir, at my friends."

Dammit, don't do this to us, J.J. Abrams. Can at least one original character make it through the new saga without dying?

Now, this isn't the first time we've gotten a tease that C-3PO will play a big role in this film. In the last trailer, we saw the gold droid with glowing red eyes – this led to some theories about how C-3PO could help the Resistance.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the final trailer for the grand conclusion of the Skywalker saga since Disney revealed the big D23 trailer in August. That trailer, which showed what fans refer to as "Dark Rey," has led to weeks of passionate debate about when, how, and if Rey could turn to the Dark Side in Episode IX. Now, it seems like she might not be alone, if C-3PO's moment in this trailer is to be believed.

We'll know for certain when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 20.
