The World Cup, eh? The bloody World Cup. Truly, the last two weeks have been a golden time for detached observers of international merriment and disaster.

Watching Germany's lead-footed attempt to salvage their World Cup defence by beating already-eliminated South Korea was a giddy thrill to begin with. But for the final coup de grace to come from auxiliary inside forward Manuel Neuer being tackled 30 yards from the Korean goal while absolutely muffing an attempted nutmeg, then seeing the ball hoofed gleefully upfield for a tap-in: that's magic. That's World Cup fever. This must be how everyone else in world football felt watching England for the last 18 years.

The German press are in numb shock currently. Dusseldorf's Rheinische Post summed the immediate reaction up with just one word: "Out".

Bild went a little further along the timeworn path of the post-World Cup loss media enquiry. They've already hit the archly detached phase, using the same phrase as they did after Germany's 7-1 win over Brazil in the 2014 semis: "No words".

Don't worry, the furious calls for sackings, root-and-branch reform and a handbrake-turn into whatever direction seems least like whatever had been happening before are in the post. Take it from us. The Suddeutsche Zeitung has already accused the German players of having "crossed the border between self-confidence and self-importance" and playing "slow motion football".

Mexico's fans have been a lot more cheery, as you'd expect. Some mobbed the South Korean embassy in Mexico City and held the Korean consul to Mexico, Byoung-Jin Han shoulder-high in the street before doing tequila shots with him.

The fan park looks like it was a good place to be South Korean too: this guy got a parade.

And Swedish and Mexican fans launched into chants of "Bye bye Germany".

There was some fairly bargain bin "Don't mention the VAR" stuff from English football Twitter, but Fox Brazil probably put it best.

Now, let's have another look at the second Korean goal.

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF.
