Now that we're getting into the final few weeks before the ceremony, it's time to acknowledge that there's a very real danger of Ethan Hawke's Protestant pastor drama First Reformed being absolutely robbed blind at the Oscars. It's unfair, yes, but it might very well happen. Breathe. Try not to let your frustration overwhelm you.

Instead, focus on the fact that Paul Schrader, who wrote and directed First Reformed - and wrote Taxi Driver and Raging Bull for Martin Scorsese too - has confirmed that he's working on another big project with the actor.

According to a red carpet ambush by AwardsAce.com's Erick Weber, Hawke and Schrader will reunite for a Western currently titled Nine Men From Now. Willem Dafoe's on board too, apparently.

Given that how much Schrader liked working with production company A24 (who also sorted out Hereditary, Lady Bird and The Florida Project, among others) on First Reformed, it's likely they'll get first pick. Netflix, which were in to buy First Reformed at one stage, probably won't be - Schrader's fairly sceptical about the platform.

"I’m very thankful that they didn’t [finance First Reformed] because I ended up with A24 who knew exactly how to handle such a film," Schrader told Vulture. "It would have gotten lost in that vast cornucopia of streaming. If you decided to watch only Netflix, all the time, 24/7 you still wouldn’t see all of it."
