• Having read the scripts in bed at 4am, Christie ended up having to go for a big walk to get her head around the "emotional rollercoaster" in store
  • "Things happened that deeply startled me, upset me"
  • Then again, things do seem more intense at 4am

It might be because you recall Brienne of Tarth doing in The Hound back in season four, but Gwendoline Christie doesn't give the vibe of someone who's easily fazed by things. However, she says that reading the scripts for the finale of season eight of Game of Thrones left her so "startled" and "upset" that she had to go for a big walk to calm down.

"I was doing some work in Canada, and I woke up at 4am, checked my email because I heard the scripts might be coming through, and they dropped in," Christie told Good Morning America. "I sat there, and I read them all the way through from the start to the end. And it was a real emotional rollercoaster, because things happened that deeply startled me, upset me. I went bright red in the face."

That image of Christie sat bolt-upright in bed, staring into the void, face burning, is an extremely strong one. What had she seen? Whose unexpected poleaxing would have such a dramatic effect on her? Whoever it was, the whole thing left Christie dazed.

"I had to put them down," she explained. "I was sort of walking around. I had to go out for a walk… It was a really extraordinary experience, and I realised they had pulled out all the stops for this one."

Going for a big walk was Emilia Clarke's reaction to finding out how series eight ended too, though her reminiscence of the three-hour London ramble made it sound more like the kind of whimsical, pirouetting wander you'd expect to see in Jules Et Jim or something like that. Given Brienne's outlook on life, you'd assume Christie's 4am walk would be more Michael Douglas in Falling Down.
