Travis Scott x Nike is one of the few ongoing sneaker partnerships that has managed to retain the hype that surrounded it upon launch. They've done that by keeping standards high, stock limited and releases few and far between. Next up is a ‘black phantom’ take on the hitmaker’s Air Jordan 1 Low – just the fourth colourway to grace the collaborative low-top, following ‘reverse mocha’ (2021), ‘Fragment’ (2021) and 'OG' (AKA 'mocha') (2019).
As the name implies, the ‘black phantom’ AJ1 Low is a triple black trainer – a jet black Air sole props up an upper comprising several raven-hued suede layers, including the collab’s trademark reverse swoosh. Yet, it's the white accents – namely, the exposed stitching, embroidered heel motifs and Nike Air tongue tab – that truly vitalise this variation.
The details don’t stop at the exterior, as within each shoe, a dual-branded insole is discoverable, which is also black, save the red and white frills. Plus, the packaging is thematic of the release: each pair arrives in a blacked-out box specifically designed for the drop, filled with black bandana-patterned fabric wrap reminiscent of prior releases (the Travis Scott x Dunk Low, in particular) and extra pairs of laces.
