A not very long time ago, in a London borough not that far away, John Boyega was just a struggling actor looking for a break. Now, he's the face of the biggest film franchise in history. That kind of career transition can, you imagine, give a guy a lot of confidence. Which is perhaps why he's been bossing the promo trail for the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker – in which he plays Stormtrooper-turned-Resistance hero, Finn – in a succession of blockbuster 'fits.

First, there was the magic eye-picture sweater he wore back in April, when he appeared at the Star Wars Celebration event in Chicago. Crafted by Australian brand Coogi, the inside-out-looking knitwear was only worn by Aussie golfers until Biggie adopted it as a signature in the Nineties. Today, it's a style move that shows you know your fashion history.

He finished that particular look off with a chunky gold chain and a stainless steel Cartier de Santos watch, which is the kind of metal-mixing that menswear traditionalists tut over. To them, we say that when your knitwear clashes with itself, there's no reason that your jewellery shouldn't get in on the action too.

Next came the head-to-toe Pyer Moss look. The New York brand, founded by Haitian-American Kerby Jean-Raymond, has become a fashion industry darling for its cerebral spin on sportswear. Boyega went all-in on Pyer Moss's ace new collaboration with Reebok, stepping out in an embroidered tracksuit finished with a pair of the Pyer Moss x Reebok Experiment 4 sneakers, in the yet-to-be-released red-and-white colourway.

Tiger tiger, burning bright, Emperor Palpatine you must fight

And now, in a pretty epic style pendulum swing, he hit the streets of New York in tiger-stripe topcoat, worn over a slick all-black ensemble (a move he might have stolen from Star Wars co-star Oscar Isaac) and elevated with a pair of shiny Chelsea boots. All of which smacks of a man who's enjoying his moment because he knows he's earned it. After all, if you can't have fun when you're starring in the biggest movie on earth, then when can you?
