Gucci Vault – the online concept store established in 2021, through which the Italian fashion house teams up with other brands – is taking centre stage while the luxury stalwart gears up for new creative director Sabato De Sarno’s anticipated September debut. And amongst a number of other labels, modern prep authority Rowing Blazers has joined the party.
For Vault Summer, the six year old New York brand has collaborated on a limited-edition capsule imbued with all the collegiate cool of its wider collection. As ever, the designs are chiefly inspired by the social clubs of British and American universities, meaning formalwear (ties, blazers, shirts etc.) and sporty pieces (rugby shirts, jockey fleeces etc.) take the lead.
A dodo motif punctuates the collection – found atop the baseball cap, the bow tie, the cotton shorts and more – which further nods to the penchant Jack Carlson, founder of Rowing Blazers, has for the eccentricities of Britishness, since the extinct bird is indivisible with Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. “The dodo is at once noble and tragic,” says Carlson. “I’ve been fascinated by them since I was very young.”
The Rowing Blazers for Gucci Vault limited edition collection is available now, exclusively on Gucci’s webstore, with prices starting at £55.
