The Ladybird and Call Me By Your Name star has hit a rich style form you should be watching closely

Timothée Chalamet is having quite a moment.

We don't mean his Oscar nods for Call Me By Your Name or Ladybird, impressive though they both are. We mean in the style stakes.

Summoned to every brightly-lit, red carpeted press gauntlet in the world over the past six months, the New Yorker has emerged as one of the best-dressed figures on the circuit.

At the tender age of 22 (22!) he is dressing with a confidence beyond his years, and in doing so providing men of his generation with some useful lessons. And here they are.

Use your body shape

In your twenties you're at your most handsome and - crucially - lithe, something you should seek to exploit even when dressing formally. Here Chalamet wear a slim-lapel, skinny tux sans stuffy bowtie: the perfect young man's take on evening wear.

Perfect your trainer game

It's not like you have to trade in your trainers for a pair of sensible brogues the second you hit 30, but your twenties should probably still be your peak sneaker decade.

Chalamet's opted for a pair inspired by your Dad's hiking shoes made by Prada, with a yellow heel trim that adds just the right amount of pop to his dark casual outfit. You can buy them here if you want to do the same.

Let loose

The cropped trousers and undone top button add a slightly dishevelled, school boyish edge to an otherwise dull two-piece suit. Just don't take it too far and end up looking like AC/DC.

Follow trends wherever they go

One of the joys of being a young guy is that you can follow the latest trends and look 'edgy' rather than just 'sad', which is what comes later (sorry to break it to you).

Take Chalamet with his high-waisted trousers and tucked in shirt. Waistbands have been creeping up for a few seasons now, with Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta and other heavyweights hanging drapey, pleated trousers around the navel area. So join them, and him!

For now...

Be brave with colour

Wearing pink isn't bold per say, but wearing a pink, contrast-collar pinstripe shirt with matching pink low tops to a formal do is extremely I'm-still-in-my-twenties-and-finding-this-all-a-bit-funny - which is what you should be aiming for at all times.

Embrace slogans

Wearing clothes with visible labels or 'thought-provoking' slogans is strictly the preserve of musicians and the young. If you're going to join them, opt for something subtle like this 'The Last Poets' merino wool crew neck, by London designer Bella Freud.

Experiment with fit

At the Paris premiere of his own film in January, Chalamet wore a pair of slim-fit formal trousers with a leather jacket that was slightly too long in the sleeves. The result was a kind of thrown together nonchalance that can only really belong to the young and the fabulously haired (that's you!).

Wear a good suit...

In February, Chalamet turned up for a formal dinner - the Annual Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon, no less - in a dark green, two button notch lapel suit by Gucci, worn with a white dress shirt (air tie of course) and black leather lace-ups.

...and wear it twice

Later that same day? He paired the very same suit with a black t-shirt and a small neck chain for an evening party. In your 20s, knowing how to switch up key items to work for different occasions is a useful trick.

Finally, be a Berluti model

In recent months, Chalamet has been embraced by Haider Ackermann, the Creative Director of Berluti. The upshot of being a muse for a fashion label? You get to wear their clothes, like this burgundy velvet suit, for free.

This one would be handy at any age, to be honest.
