A huge question mark was placed not only on the Oscars, but its red carpet. As a glamorous petri dish of very famous people standing in very close quarters from all four corners of the world, it's a super spreader event that, arguably, wasn't worth the risk. And, as the Golden Globes so proved earlier this year, you don't actually need a physical red carpet to impress. Josh O'Connor, in Loewe, standing in what looked to be a very pleasant back garden gave us all the Hollywood romance we craved – and without a transatlantic carbon emission.
So do we even need the red carpet anymore? Yes. Yes we do. Because, just as the Zoom drinks of last April proved that these things are actually way better in real life, the procession of slebs heading into the gilded halls of the Academy Awards proved that they've still got it. The eventual winners weren't at all surprising – but the calibre of the clothes were.
Here are all the best-dressed guests from the Oscars (and a couple who tuned in from overseas).
