Gucci has a knack for making the unsightly a masterpiece: big tweed cardigans, jam jar glasses - basically anything you'd find in the bottom of your nan's cupboard. And now, it seems creative director Alessandro Michele has placed beauty into another beast: chunky trainers.

As part of the Italian outfit's pre-fall 2018 collection, the popular Rhyton model has seen two new iterations: black with a tricolour colour block, and off-white with Gucci's signature green-red-green branding.

Both kicks boast a smooth leather upper, a gum-hued outsole and a thick rubber midsole, adding comfort and bulk to an already sizeable silhouette. What's more, the latest Rhyton continues the trend for ugly as the new hot, with several other luxury brands solidifying their streetwear credentials thanks to swollen, thicker sneaks.
