Blame the internet! Blame the streetwear hysteria! Or simply blame yourself for not having 28 browser windows open: Palace x Polo Ralph Lauren sold out in minutes.

It's not all that surprising really. From the shock announcement in central Tokyo to the quick turnaround to market, this much-hyped collection was always going to have the sneakerheads waiting with bated breath. What's more, it lived up to the hype: this was streetwear for grown-ups, and something every man from Supreme-queueing teens to menswear aficionados proper could appreciate.

It's a promising sign for both brands. While Palace was long seen as a British streetwear niche, it now boasts a proven case study for mass market appeal. And likewise to Ralph Lauren. The designer has built a reputation upon timeless Ivy League prep, but his talents are just as applicable to youth-orientated streetwear and beyond. It follows a wider pattern for the American outfit too, with two archival re-releases - the Downward Skier and the Polo CP-93 capsule - nodding towards streetwear, and anticipating the success of the current Palace collab.

So what next? Well, you can probably get some pre-loved pieces on eBay at laughable prices. But with such a triumphant run - and with that, triumphant dollar signs - you can almost hear another collab passing through the pipeline. Stay tuned.
