Tom Hiddleston never skips on a round. He always holds the door open, his shoes are forever polished, and your glass of water is always filled before his. He seems, in short, a very decent man. But for the all the classic manners the Avengers: Endgame star doth possess, he's taking a few quiet risks elsewhere - specifically, on his suit.

At the SiriusXM Studios in New York, the 38-year-old went for a big camera-snapping statement. You just didn't notice. That's because instead of feeding the current appetite for loud colour clashes (think Versace, Dries Van Noten and Prada), Hiddleston went for quieter stripes-on-stripes instead from Polo Ralph Lauren.

Which, ten years ago, would've been a faux pas of the highest order: you can't wear stripes on stripes, good sir. But they were wrong. In recent times, stripes of similar tones can be worn in tandem, and Hiddleston ties it together using shades of blue - an old favourite that scored an ace in the stands of Centre Court.

Granted, it won't make waves. And yet that's precisely the point. Here's a trend that, in its purest form, lights up the runway and causes industry darlings to weep and replicate it. But for real life - the one dominated by offices and bars that aren't actually in Milan - Hiddleston has diluted a stripe clash into more wearable waters.

You can sail on them, too. Just ensure your suit is of a similar colour throughout (again, blue may be your easiest way in), and like all good tailoring, focus on fit. Then you're halfway to Hiddleston, manners not withstanding.
