If you’re looking for an unusual (and Haggis-free) way to toast the bard’s birthday tomorrow night, then this east London supperclub could be it.
Glenfiddich whisky and former Noma chef Ben Greeno have put together a stunning single-malt inspired menu, with each course matched to a different dram.
Around the intimate setting of a kitchen table, a handful of guests are treated to dishes such as cured salmon with Szechuan pepper and 18-year-old Glenfiddich, followed by unctuous beef cheeks cooked – no word of a lie - with whisky barrel. However, when we tested a sneak preview of the menu, the combination that proved the most irresistible was vanilla mouse with “malt cookies” (think Malteser meets macaroon) pared with the newly released – not to mention delicious and very collectable - Snow Phoenix.
Despite the fact that Greeno looks younger than most of the whiskies we tasted, his food is a mature and sophisticated tribute to all things Scotch. Bag yourself a place.
The Glenfiddich Burns’ Night menu by Ben Greeno costs £40 per person. Email GlenfiddichBurnsNight@gmail.com for a seat.
