As Christmas edges ever nearer, high street chains and independent restaurants alike have scrambled to spread their festive cheer in the form of turkey and trimmings encased in bread, or Christmas sandwiches as they are also known. Ranging from a roast in a bun to a very merry toastie, here are the ones worth delving into:
The Blacklock Christmas Sandwich
It's unbelievable that nobody thought of putting a roast lunch inside a sandwich and then selling it (those supermarket monstrosoties with stuffing don't count). But that's exactly what the purveyors of all things carnivorous, Blacklock have done with their cult festive sandwich. Between a toasted demi-brioche you'll find charcoal grilled turkey, rubbed with an in-house mix of Christmas spices; a homemade sausage and onion patty, Middlewhite bacon, cranberry chutney and some steamed greens, for the health conscious of course.

Tommi’s Festive Venison Burger
Christmas is a time of year when swathes of the population decide that they fancy eating venison, so luckily the good people behind Reykjavik's most popular ex pat(tie) burger bar, Tommi's Burgers are here to satiate the deer-hungry people of London. Their venison burger comes topped with brie, rocket, pickled red cabbage, green pepper mayo and cranberry sauce, with all ingredients being sourced from British suppliers. You'll also be performing a good deed by tucking in, as £1 from each burger is donated to Age UK.

The Melt Room Christmas Melt
Applying some heat to the Christmas sandwich frenzy, the toastie afficionados at The Melt Room have thrown their hat into the merry ring with their Christmas Melt, which features the traditional: turkey, stuffing, swiss cheese, cranberry sauce, and rosemary, beneath the slightly more unusual: potato sourdough bread. Potatos and bread? What will they think of next?

Pret's Christmas Lunch
Along with the likes of bad port and forced walks, the Pret Christmas sandwich has entered the lofty realm of festive ubiquity, but is still the undoubted king of high-street rushed lunches in December. This year's rendition features free-range turkey; pork stuffing, crispy onions; spinach, cranberry & port sauce and mayo, along with the relatively ambiguous 'seasoning', which we think is probably salt and pepper. Old reliable may have been around forever, but it wouldn't be Christmas without it.

The ‘Get Elf’d’ Burger at Dirty Bones
One of those 'edgy' cocktail and gourmet burger and hotdog 'joints', Dirty Bones nevertheless do a fantastic burger and their festive edition is no different.
