1 | Clean and Scrub

Akin to the hair on your head, your moustache also needs regular cleansing. Daily grime and food can build up, leaving an unpleasant odour. Use your regular facial wash to cleanse your moustache (and or facial hair).

Molton Brown Deep-clean Mineral Ions Facewash provides deep cleansing but won’t over dry your skin. An active mineral complex ensures your skin is sufficiently ‘fed’ and protected.

Some will suffer with dry skin beneath facial hair and ingrown hairs - the solution is a facial scrub once or twice a week to scrub away dry skin and prevent ingrown hair.

Continue with Molton Brown and their Skin-clear Jade Face Exfoliator - Jade Powder, Jojoba Spheres, Tea Tree Extract work to remove blackheads, ingrown hairs and balance the skin while conditioning Shea Butter ensures essential moisture remains.

2 | Shave and Trim

There are plenty of moustache styles to choose from, some more complicated than others - either way, maintaining your chosen design will require some precision equipment. Use a dedicated beard trimmer to carefully sculpt your moustache. For stray and long hairs, carefully snip away with some manicure scissors and use a transparent gel when shaving around your moustache, it’s easier to see where to/ and not to shave.

The Gillette ProGlide Styler has a small and extremely effective trimming blade, perfect for close work around your moustache. It has a traditional wet shaving blade attachment too for shaving the rest of your face.

£20 from Boots.

3 | Condition and Hydrate

Facial hair tends to draw moisture from the skin, resulting in dry flaky patches beneath and within your moustache. Hydrating this area with a regular moisturiser can prove tricky, becoming ‘tangled’ within hair and not easily absorbed. A dedicated moustache and beard hydrator is the solution.

Mr Natty Frank's Beard Elixir is blended with the finest essential oils, and is subtly scented. Rub a small amount in to your moustache and skin beneath to hydrate.

£7.5/10ml from Niven & Joshua.

4 | Comb and Style

Free your moustache of debris and dry skin with a moustache comb. It will also ensure your facial hair is kept neat and tidy.

Supplier to the Royal Households Kent Brushes have released a limited edition comb; completely handmade, hand polished and then buffed to create soft rounded teeth. It will glide through your moustache, making grooming it an effortless and enjoyable experience.

£4.50 from Kent Brushes.

5 | Wax and Shape

You may opt to wear a complicated moustache style, or one more straight forward - either way it’s advisable to invest in some moustache wax. It will hold your twizzled ends in place and ensure your moustache stays neat and styled. Similar to the hair on your head, moustache hair can become unruly if not tamed.

Penhaligon’s have created a created wax just for moustaches. The lightly scented formula will ensure your Mo’ looks good and smells great, with Black Pepper, Beeswax and Patchouli.

£5/7g from Penhaligon’s.
