We would say spoilers abound, but you really should have seen this coming.

There really is only one way Game of Thrones could go out, and that's with a no holds barred blood bath.

Although even the most die hard fans might not be prepared for this finale, and neither were the cast who broke down after they finished reading the script.

As Variety reports, Francesca Orsi gave an insight into the final GoT table readings at the INTV Conference in Israel.

Orsi, HBO’s senior vice president of drama, said the cast had a quiet cry as their characters were killed off one by one.

"None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started to fall down to their deaths."

"By the end, the last few words on the final script, the tears just started falling down. Then there was applause that lasted 15 minutes."

HBO execs also reinforced their post-GoT game plan during the conference, stating how for the first time in HBO history they will revisit a show once it is over with "three, four, five spinoffs".

And don’t worry: they will be in good hands with a budget just as eye watering as the original show.

The final series of Game of Thrones is set to return in 2019.
