By As the dust settles on Game of Thrones and the blasted husk of Westeros which Bran the Broken (thanks for that absolute hospital pass of a name Tyrion, cheers) will rule over with his own brand of strong, stable government, the rabid fandom anger which met the final three episodes has started to burn itself out.
In fact, it looks like the outrage that met season eight - which took a kicking from fans who felt logic, plotting and character development had been pushed out of a tower window by a man trying to cover up his incestuous relationship with his sister - might have been almost entirely fanned by and contained within a relatively small group of extremely online fans who made a lot of noise but didn't represent your average viewer. Imagine!
A poll by The Hollywood Reporter and Morning Consult showed that 63 percent of the 2,201 respondents, Americans from a cross section of ages, genders and ethnicities as well as levels of Thrones fandom, enjoyed the last episode, with 26 percent saying they liked it "a lot" and 37 percent liking it "some". Of the respondents who didn't like it, 24 percent "didn't really like it" and 10 percent "didn't like it at all".
That 10 percent may include Charles Dance, the former Tywin Lannister, who admitted to Good Morning Britain that he was "confused" by the ending.
"I got to the very end and I thought, 'Hmm, ok.' There’s little Arya going off on a cruise somewhere; poor Jon’s gone back to the North and all the people left alive are sat around, [saying] 'Shall we have a cup of tea?' I thought, "Agh, I don’t know.'"
