It might not be extreme as his Venom makeover, but Tom Hardy has been well and truly transformed for his role as Al Capone in the upcoming Fonzo.

The actor has been busy posting in-character selfies on Instagram for months now, but director Josh Trank has now offered the first official look at Hardy's Al Capone.

In what appears to be a still from the film, history’s most infamous gangster is seen chewing on his trademark cigar in a blue stain robe, surrounded by women.

Capone, nicknamed ‘Scarface’ for the marks on his cheek, rose through the ranks of the Chicago crime scene in the prohibition era, earning millions through bootlegging, prostitution and gambling.

True notoriety came in 1929 when he allegedly ordered the assassination of seven rivals in what became known as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

The biopic will centre around Capone’s latter years in prison, and his syphilitic descent into dementia. Speaking in the latest issue of our very own magazine, Hardy says that Capone’s mind starts to dissolve like “a sugar cube in warm water”.

A trailer is still a long way off, unfortunately. On the plus side, that’s plenty of time to read that interview with the Fonzo star. Every cloud, eh?
