Disney’s upcoming Spiderman spin-off Venom is shrouded in mystery, and the latest casting choice is confusing fans even further.

Comic devotees Bleeding Kill have reported that Woody Harrelson is set to star opposite Tom Hardy’s symbiotic anti-hero as serial killer Cletus Kasady, AKA Carnage, in the Ruben Fleisher-directed film.

A source stated in "a very confirm-y way that not only is Carnage to appear in the upcoming Venom movie but, yes, he will be played by Woody Harrelson."

It was previously reported that Riz Ahmed, who has been cast as an original character called Dr. Carlton Drake, would eventually take on the role of the notorious killer.

In the comics, the disturbed character shares a prison cell with Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), which is how the alien symbiote manages to attach itself to Kasady. When Venom is reformed as a ‘lethal protector’, he finds that his former cellmate has become one of his most deadly enemies.

It’s believed that the film will take inspiration from the ‘Lethal Protector’ and ‘Planet of the Symbiotes’ graphic novels, though plot details so far are very, very slim – unless you believe the alleged leak that infuriated fans the world over last month.
