Tommy faces his most imposing enemy ever in the first look at Peaky Blinders' fifth series: the British government.
The newly-installed MP goes horseback in a photo from the new episodes, but we can assure fans there's absolutely no Outlander-style time warp happening. Instead, the story picks up in the aftermath of the 1929 stock market crash.
Here's the official synopsis: "Series five of Steven Knight's crime family saga finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family's future but that of the entire nation."
The new series is officially filming now in Manchester with lots of familiar faces returning, including Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly), Paul Anderson (Arthur Jr), Sophie Rundle (Ada), Kate Phillips (Linda) and Natasha O'Keeffe (Lizzie) as well as Aidan Gillen and Jack Rowan as father-and-son fixers Aberama and Bonnie Gold.
Unfortunately, there's no reference to Tom Hardy coming back as Tommy's most notorious frenemy Alfie Solomons, but he's been known to make surprise appearances in the past.
"The story of the Peaky Blinders and of the Shelby family gets woven into the political fabric of Britain and Europe as the 1920s end and the '30s begin," creator Steven Knight said today (4 October).
"Tommy Shelby faces the darkest force he has ever faced and his struggle is as relevant today as it was then."
Peaky Blinders will return in 2019, moving from BBC Two to BBC One.
