Esquire Self-Made, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz X-Class, returned for its second instalment on Saturday 1 June. Hosting inspiring business leaders, fashion entrepreneurs and motivational speakers the one-day summit at Ham Yard hotel offered visitors panel talks and discussions as well as networking opportunities.

Esquire sat down with the multitalented Erling Kagge, a Norwegian explorer, entrepreneur, author, art collector and publisher, to distill some his best advice.

"I've always been very fond of business, buy something for one pound and sell it for two pounds. I think it's a great idea"

"For me [drive] is about curiosity and wonder being the engine in life. It's also a bit about revenge because I was dyslexic and had different problems as a kid. The best form of revenge is to have some success in life."

"Roald Amundsen, the first guy to walk to the South Pole in 1911, he wrote that victory awaits the one who has everything in order."

Kagge in discussion at Esquire Self-Made

"When you're walking the North Pole, as Børge Ousland and I did, and a polar bear starts to run toward you at full speed and you have one Magnum .44 each, then it's a matter of who's going to have who for dinner. Afterwards you shake and understand, but while it happens, just like life in general, you need to stay cool."

"It's hard to have a clear idea about what's happening in five years time because I think it's hard to understand what's going to happen next week! So I think the best thing is to work hard and focus on having the best books and the best people to sell them."

"Get up early in the morning!"
