Montblanc has launched a new watch in its Iced Sea Collection, a range announced in 2022.

The Montblanc Iced Sea 0 Oxygen Deep 4810 is a 43mm automatic dive watch with the distinction of being water resistant to 4810 meters, a numerical distinction the German luxury brand uses across its portfolio of writing instruments and leather goods, to denote the Mont Blanc’s mountain's height above sea level.

(The tallest mountain in the Alps can vary in height by as much as five meters, depending on its snowpack. It is measured every two years by surveyors using drones. The most recent measurement, from 2023, recored 4,805.59 meters above sea level – Geography Ed.)

In keeping with other Iced Sea timepieces, the dial of the new watch was inspired by the ice of one of the Mont Blanc mountain’s largest glaciers – the Mer de Glace – and is said to reflect its "interlocking network of crystals frozen in time for millennia".

Meanwhile the caseback features a 3D engraving of a diver’s view, as seen below the surface of the ice, achieved by laser-generated oxidation to give the metal both matte and shiny finishes.

The ‘Zero Oxygen’ part of the name refers to the absence of oxygen inside the case, achieved during production and deemed to be of benefit to explorers for whom a foggy display could prove problematic.

The watch comes in a titanium case with a unidirectional turning bezel made from black anodised aluminium and blue-emission Super-LumiNova on the indexes and dot. It features a date window at 3 o’clock, has a power reserve of 120 hours and comes COSC certified for accuracy.
