Jim Lambie goes Wyld

Given the glut of hotel openings across the capital next year (there are two cropping up in Leicester Square alone) it's not surprising that W, the boutique chain de rigueur, are pulling out all the stops in celebration of their first London residence.

A few weeks back we saw the launch of a short film starring the supermodel likes of David Gandy and Helena Christensen, commissioned by W in celebration of the new hotel, and last weekend, the forthcoming hotel hosted the celebrity-clogged afterparty to Primal Scream's seminal "Screamadelica" show.

The location was W's new Wyld Bar, the drink was the Wyld Shot - consisting of Tequila, Kaffir lime sugar syrup, lemon and fresh watermelon - and the focal point was Turner-nominated British artist Jim Lambie's specially commissioned, appropriately psychedelic artworks, which were subsequently donated to the Elton John Aids Foundation.

The Wyld Bar, named after eccentric Victorian entrepreneur James Wyld, is set to open in February 2011, so watch this space for a full review nearer the time.
