Thought getting stopped by The Sartorialist was the height of street style approbation? Bad news hipsters — your target has changed. Now, like Sam (above), Joseph, and Cedric (after the jump), you'll need to be immortalised in wood by Tomoaki Suzuki: but will you make the grain?
Japanese sculptor Suzuki, who studied at Goldsmith's in London, bases his sculptures on real people he comes across in Hackney, where he has a studio. He photographs them from every angle and studies the pictures, then carves his figures — averaging about 50cm high — from limewood using traditional Japanese techniques. His first UK solo show opens on Saturday at Towner in Eastbourne so you may well wish to pop in (in all your casually assembled trendoid finery).
