We were initially baffled by The Double Club, Fondazione Prada’s temporary restaurant/ bar/club in London’s Angel. However, artist Carsten Höller’s concept – that every element, including food, drink, architecture and music, be 50% Western and 50% Congolese – made sense as soon as we walked through the door (though the £12 price tag for a bottle of imported beer still caused us a sharp intake of breath).
We’ve been back since to eat in the excellent restaurant, but the opportunities for further visits are limited because the Club shuts this Saturday. Only ever conceived as a pop-up venture time has been called at the peak of the Club’s popularity, a great way for it to go out. If you can get there tonight you’ll catch a DJ set from Dirty Sound System, and on Saturday there’s a live performance by Congolese singer and sapeur Gordon Masiala. www.thedoubleclub.co.uk
