The Raincoat: Burberry Trench

Next year’s centenary of the start of the First World War could be seen as a fitting moment to celebrate a famous coat: the Burberry Trench.

Originally supplied to British officers during the Boer Wars of the late 19th century, the Trench was redesigned and earned its name in the Great War 12 years later. That was really the last major design update, save a few tweaks – the famous checked lining was added in the Twenties and current chief creative officer Christopher Bailey has made some more recent, but always respectful improvements.
