With the sun finally making a committed appearance, our shades are out in earnest. It's a difficult one to call this year, with aviators done to death and wayfarers rapidly going the same route, we've been looking to bespoke outlets for inspiration.
Enter Black Eyewear. Established by sexagenarian jazz fan Robert Roope back in 2006 — as an offshoot of his snappily titled "Retrospecs range" — the expansive Black Eyewear collection has been inspired by frames worn by Jazz greats of old, including Chet Baker, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie.
A few of our favourites include the 20s inspired "Wes" (see above) — dedicated to Jazz great Wes Montogomery and worn by Johnny Depp (as if we need any more persuasion) in the 2009 mobster hit, "Public Enemies" — and the squashed circlular frames of Woody, after Woody Herman, obviously.
