This spring, menswear hits the road with classic bomber jackets and blousons. At the wheel for Esquire? Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen.

Alfie Allen is in a good mood. Over breakfast at a Soho hotel, the 25-year-old Londoner is infectiously cheerful, reeling off stories in an enthusiastic flurry of accents, from RP to Hollywood.
He’s forged his acting career on his own, but Allen comes from British showbiz royalty. Mother Alison Owen is an Oscar-nominated producer; dad is Keith Allen, comic actor and hell-raiser. His sister is Lily Cooper (née Allen).
Did he feel pressure to excel because of his family’s successes? “Not at all.” He grins. “Although, if there was one thing that used to get on my tits, it was that Lily had money. I used to think, ‘I want that spending power!’”
Allen’s own currency is rapidly appreciating. After early parts in Atonement with Keira Knightley, and the superb Freefall, a BBC credit-crunch drama, Allen was cast alongside Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage in HBO’s Game of Thrones in 2010, a sprawling, addictive medieval fantasy epic dubbed ‘The Sopranos in Middle Earth’.
“When my agent called me, I was so, so happy, dude.” His character in Game of Thrones, Theon Greyjoy, is the son of a nobleman. “He’s a bit naughty, and he also has quite a lot of sex.”
In April, the show returns for a second series and Allen’s role gets bigger. “It’s going to be awesome,” he says. “There’s a massive struggle involving love, power and dragons.”
What’s next? “I’m not fussed. I’ve got an LA agent now, but I’ve got nothing to prove to anyone other than myself.” He laughs. “Although an Oscar would be nice.”
Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic on April 2
