Winter Rules No 10

The Right Shoes

So long as you take care of them and have them re-soled as regularly as is necessary, a comfortingly expensive, properly made pair of shoes will last you forever (or near enough).

Go for a simple pair, which can be worn with both smart and more casual outfits. A chocolate brown derby or brogue always works well.

TIP: Buy with a view to repair, not replace. Look for rubber soles — which will withstand the wet - thick, rainproof leather on the upper and a sturdy back. Brown leather brogues, £255, by Church’s.
